Default Super Robot Wars: To the Stars RP

First, Rules and Sign-up/OOC thread:

http://www.sprites-inc.co.uk/forum/s...ead.php?t=9050

And here we go:

The Great Destruction. A war so devastating, that many members of humanity were forced underground in order to survive. After twenty years, humanity was able to reclaim the surface and begin to rebuild. In the reconstruction, national borders were broken down, unifying the various nations on Earth into the Unified Earth Sphere.

The year is AGD (After the Great Destruction) 192. Humanity has rebuilt the losses suffered in the Great Destruction, and have even begun to colonize space and the moon. With this new push towards the stars comes new technology. Humanoid mobile weapons, or 'Mechs', once a science-fiction staple, have become reality, and now have replaced conventional weapons in the armies as of AGD 166. These units were built and maintained to keep the peace that broke out following the Great Desctruction. But, as in most of human history, conflict has broken out again. The colonies have decided to declare themselves their own nation, and began to cut their ties with the UES, and become the Colonial Alliance. After the initial declaration, several members of the UES government traveled to the CA in order to negotiate. The CA were unwilling to negotiate, imprisoned the officials, and destroyed their ships and protective details. Following this, the CA formally delared their independence from, and war against, the UES.

The spark has been ignited. Soon the flames of war will envelop all of humanity once again.

May 22, 192AGD...

UESNC Hiryu, Sondheim, UES...

Captain Jacob Laywright strode along one of the halls on his ship, the Hiryu, one of the newest ships to come out of the drydocks here in Sondheim, located near London in what had been Great Britan before the Great Destruction. The ship was so new, it still had tape on some of the windows, and some of the walls were still tacky from the fresh paint. It was awaiting the new unit that the UESMC was stationing on the ship, the 82nd Airborne. As he walked, Jacob removed his crisp white cap and ran a hand through his dark hair, which in deference to his age and the stress of being in the military, was finally starting to go grey at the temples. Replacing his cap, he walked through a door that lead into the breifing chambers.

Once inside, he saw a multitude of people, either leaning on the wall, sitting at one of the tables, or simply walking around. He noticed that some of them were out of their uniforms, instead having decided that civilian clothing would be better. One of these people was a young man, about eighteen years of age, leaning on the wall, with brown hair cut short except for the bangs, which hung down in front of his face, and was wearing a black t-shirt and blue denim pants. A glimmer of gold could be seen on his right wrist, this coming from a bracelet. This person was clearly an ensign, the top brass deciding that only ensign-ranked pilots would be suited for his command.

<That has to be the former mercenary.> Jacob thought when that same youth spoke.

"Captain on deck!" The youth spoke, snapping to attention and saluting.

Capt. Laywright saw that a majority had also stood at attention. He let them do so for about thirty seconds as his eyes swept over each of his pilots, evaluating each pilot's manner of dress, some in uniform, some in casual clothing, and looking in their faces, trying to divine some inkling of their personalities.

"At ease." Laywright said, as he walked over to the large desk in the front of the room. On the wall behind the desk, there were several massive monitors, used to display information on their objectives. At this moment, the monitors were lit with a series of test patterns in order to determine if they were working properly. Laywright reached down to the controls that were on the desk, and pressed a button, turning the monitors off. Now standing behind the desk, Laywright turned to face the pilots. "Sound off. Names, rank, and Mechs." Laywright barked.

"Sir! Ensign Ryo Hazaki, pilot of the Weissritter." Ryo said. Laywright knew Ryo's work in the mercenary group Broken Bullet, and wasn't impressed. In his view, mercenaries were nothing but cowardly, money-grubbing scum, fit for nothing more than grunt work. Then again, Kato Hazaki, Ryo's grandfather, had commanded a great deal of respect from the older pilots... Laywright waited for the other pilots to introduce themselves.

Theo gave a full-fledged salute, none of this half-assedness that would have given him a bad reputation from the start.

"My name is Ensign Theodore Barstow, sir. Pilot of the Destiny Gundam."

He did not flinch from his position of attention. He had not even remotely met this new captain before, and he knew from experience that not taking a captain seriously was a very bad idea.

He took a moment to reflect on how he'd ended up here...And how he ended up with the Gundam he had. He remembered the angry conversation as to why a good amount of the weapons weren't fitted, something about expenses and a bad timetable...

Of course, that wasn't important. It was his suit, and his suit to learn. Weapons could always be fitted later.

-ten minutes before the muster-
Ensign Chiora paced back and forth across her cramped room with a look on her face that could make grown men cry. "pink?!" she thought bitterly to herself "pink? in this day and age? We've perfected space travel, united the earth as one nation, and have developed giant goddamn robots to shoot each other with, and women are still expected to wear pink? WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIT?!" She looked at her pink dress uniform, which was hanging daintily on a coat hanger, with disdain, hell if she could have gotten away with it she would show up in her old enlisted men's uniform.

but......

that would've been a slap in the face to everyone in her old division, the mechanized "Forgotten" 15th of Odessa, and especially to everyone in her old squad, the "Grosky" team. When the news that a new warship had been commissioned and was seeking elite pilots for its mechanized compliment; bases and armies all over the UES clamored and nearly came to blows over who to send for the coveted assignments. Nobody in there right mind would ever think anybody from the 15th would be assigned to the new warship so for the most part the division was left out of that little bloodbath. When the recruitment letter for Chiora came to the 15th's main office the entire division went wild in celebration, and sent her off proclaimed her to be the "pride of the 15th". She had to prove that she was worthy of her assignment here on the Hiryu, and b*tching about the uniforms wasn't how she was going to do that.

Sighing she slipped on the uniform every now and then pulling at the shirt's pink hem. At least they had allowed her to sew a patch bearing her personal insignia, A white hawk against a sky of purple, over the right shoulder.

-present time-
Chiora saluted sharply as the captain passed through the ranks, "Ensign Eristavi from the 15th Mechanized of Odessa I've brought the division's spare Grungust Type 2 with me.......it is an honor to be here sir!" She kept her back straight, her face set in a cool pose of tight professionalism, her uniform was neatly ironed and clung lightly to her slim body. A perfect soldier if one chose to ignore the sparks of rage and indignation in her eyes, and her left hand which occasionally pulled at the hem of her pink dress uniform.

Loki was not particularly content with having to stop midway through his meal. He took a piece of his bread, ate it without his commanding officer seeing, and stood. Not that it mattered, he didn't care too much of what his superiors thought. In fact, it was quite questionable as to how he was able to enter the UESNC at all. He still respected his superiors, however. He showed it by wearing his uniform at all times.

Loki stood, and saluted the Captain.

"Erith 'Loki' Yewole, Ensign. Pilot of the ASK-G03C Rapiecage, sir."

He dropped his salute, and casually waited for the others to introduce themselves. He was interested in what kind of Mecha he would be working with.

A member from the GS unit was transferred due to an incident, he stood alone, seprate, knowing his fellow officers, they would have known about it before the transfer was made.

He walked towards one of the 'freshies' and got in line, he doesn't trust any of them, thinking one of them will turn out to be a problem like a certain few of the "liberty" incident in 5/21/XX..

He then begins to speak..

"Sir, I am Mach Sanders of the GS Unit, pilot of the Genspenst MkII. Now awaiting assignments and the mission."

He now awaits the captain's orders..

Capt. Laywright listened with one ear as the assembled pilots introduced themselves. That part of him that listened also kept track of any errors, but aside from Ensign Hazaki's insistence on civilian clothing, and Ensign Estravi's apparent discomfort with her uniform, there were none.

Silence fell in the briefing room until protocol demanded that he speak.

"At ease." Laywright said as the pilots took their seats. "Barstow... Barstow..." Laywright muttered as he searched through the personnel files in front of him. Most officers liked their files in digital form, but Laywright preferred paper to pixels. Finding the file he wanted, he opened it and began reading. There was a new note in the file that wasn't there yesterday. "Ah, yes. There's a notice for you from the R&D Division. Next time we're in port, they need you to present your unit, apparently to add a few things. Also, Ensign Hazaki, next time you attend a breifing, your uniform is required. I know there are glitches when appointing new pilots to a new vessel, but something as egre-" Laywright said, building up to what sounded like a good rant, but was cut off by the sounds of sirens ringing out throughout the ship, and the entire base.

"Attention. Attention. Enemy units inbound. All ships make ready for operations."

"Damn. You heard the woman. All pilots to your units and make ready for battle." Laywright ordered, and the pilots practically ran out of the room.

Ryo managed to reach his locker, and with the speed born of having to get ready at a second's notice, put on his white and blue pulot's uniform before racing to the hangar, where his Weissritter was waiting. As he climbed into the cockpit, Weissritter's instruments began lighting up, providing enough light for Ryo to begin his checks.

"Generator, green. Monitors, green. Cameras, green. Weapons, green. Removing weapon safety locks, and bringing generator to full power." Ryo intoned, and as he brought the generator to full power, Weissritter's eyes glowed a brilliant green. "Command, this is Raven. Weissritter ready for launch."

Mach headed towards his mech, and jumped in. "Cooling systems, online. Telsea Drive activated. All systems, all green. Weapon saftey locks removed. Set Generaitor Output to 500 percent."

Mach spoke as his Genspenst MkII's Internal Engines began to reach maximum output.

"GS Soldier Mach Sanders, rolling out."

Chiora joined the rush, slipping into her pressurized piloting suit with ease and relish. These were the clothes that suited her plastic, polyester, and synthetic fiber galore. She clambered up the ladder that led into the cockpit of her 50 meter tall Mass production Grungust Type 2 and leaped into the cockpit with all the ease of a practice veteran.

"GRUNGUST!!!!!!!!!!!!! ACTIVATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Unlike most of the mechs used by the UES, the Grungust had a voice activation and pilot recognition system to prevent its overwhelming power from being stolen by conventional hacking or hot-wiring attempts. She finished the start up process by dramatically slamming her palms down around the control levers which sent her biometric data straight into the Super Robot's core processor unlocking its operating system. The titanium giant began to rouse in the hanger of the Hiryu. A green flash of light shone through its eyes as energy surged throughout the body of the Grungust Type 2.

"Ensign Eristavi ready whenever you are control!"

Barstow was really starting to hate those idiots at the R&D division. This wasn't the first time they'd given him a mecha that was incomplete, far from it. His first Mobile Suit, a GINN, didn't even have its melee weapon equipped. He knew all too well what buffoons the R&D division seemed to be.

"Roger, Captain. I do believe my Destiny is well armed enough for the current series of skirmishes, so I'm willing to wait for the R&D division to catch up. By now I'm used to them sending me in unfinished prototypes."

He grabbed his helmet and took hold of a cable lift that brought him right up to the Destiny's cockpit. Even that had an air of unfinished-ness, as if he wasn't going to be the first one to pilot one of these suits. Fortunately, the OS was easy enough to reprogram that he didn't mind the thrown together nature of the suit as a whole.

"Hyper deuterion reactor online. Wing functions check."

Robot arms united the Destiny's beam rifle with its hand and the shield with its forearm.

"Beam rifle battery fully charged."

A series of locks all unlatched themselves from the Destiny.

"Containment locks released. Theodore Barstow, in the Destiny Gundam, is ready for launch upon the Captain's issuing of launch orders."

I can't wait to see where all that military spending on this thing went...
