IC: The 'decoy' necromancer.
The necromancer was literally whimpering and trembling in front of Tursas. "D-d-d-don't k-kill me!" Looking around quickly, he pointed towards the bone wall. Promptly, it collapsed into two skeletons, who were using bones from the wall like spears. They promptly rushed forward, and pointed these spears towards vital points on the flailing Gat near Tursas. It would probably fail miserably, but... "L-let me go, and your f-friend lives." IC: Necro-Commander Adam's assumption that the commander would be wetting himself were far from accurate, though he had no way to know that's what Adam thought, nor did Adam know anything about the Commander. "Little is an understatement, foolish boy." Through the hall, a large torrent of bones slid across the floor, and amalgamated into a huge pile in front of the necromancer. The hallway was 'glowing' with black light, at least as far as anything dark can glow, and how black could be emitted as light. Impossible, yes, but not in the realm of magic. The pile of bones formed into what could best be described as a scaled-down version of the large skeletal monstrosity Aethos Nagri "piloted". "Go forth, bone golem! Crush my enemies!" The golem charged forward as the Commander dashed away.

Kit noticed that the situation was becoming a bit more serious, if only slightly. While continuing to flail around aimlessly on the ground, Kit began slowly inching a bit further away from the necromancer. Finally, when she had built enough momentum up from flailing, Kit rolled into a standing position and stuck out her tongue at the enemy.
"Go kick his ass, Tursy!" ~~~
ZoD had emerged from the building at about the same time as flames began erupting from the ground. His helmetless face was covered by long flowing hair in every direction, suggesting that his hair kept growing but was never cut due to being concealed since becoming a Mezzanotte. It wasn't long before ZoD was near the general cente of the abttlefield before he began to speak. "Z...A- ZARS Ove... Overload." ZoD began glowing as he did when using his ZARS Overload previously. Before any attacks were unleashed, however, ZoD began sparking and a small explosion occured on his chest; the red crystal shattering, sending ZoD flying into the ground. Without ZoD's helmet, he lacked the necessary control for ZARS Overload. Without the crystal, the attack could not be performed again. Standing up, ZoD seemed unphased by the damage that was just caused to him. The battlefield seemed to be growing more and more chaotic, and the machine's allies seemed like they needed some aid. By the time the golem had formed and began charging, ZoD had moved in front of it with his right arm raised, preparing to counter the force of the charge back onto the object. The Mezzanotte spoke clearly to the allies behind him. "The Leader is to be protected." |

As Jack entered the fray, dodging major conflicts, while looking for the leaders of this little escapade, he came across the tower. Curious, he entered the tower, and nearly collided with the Necro-Commander.
Oh deary me my good sir, I didn't see you there! He started to look around, and then put his elbow on the Necro-Commanders shoulder. So, do you know where an average merc such as myself can find the bloke that shot me Rum, and get a nice job?

<What the?> Adam thought as he saw ZoD. <Did Mishra already get this guy on our side?> Adam raised his sabers in an effort to prepare an attack, when Jaya suddenly waved him down.
"I've got this, big guy." Jaya said, walking even in front of ZoD. "You might want to stand back, too. Jaya said to the Mezzanotte as she walked past ZoD, before standing, staring at the golem. "You know what the only thing I like about you necromancers is?" Jaya asked as flames began dancing around her fists. "You burn real easily." Jaya said as the flames turned into small orbs hovering over her index and middle fingers. "Firestorm!" Jaya said, blowing into the orbs, and creating an effect similar to a flamethrower. "Damn, girl. Barbecue his ass." Eclipse couldn't help saying as the others witnessed the effects of Jaya's spell begin to happen. Golgotha: Brutaka stood and began walking towards the doors that would lead to their army. Along the way, he noticed that Raphael seemed to be looking at him funny. Making a mental note to execute him if he ever got out of hand, Butaka walked through the doors. "Brat, Insect, get a move on. Our master must not be kept waiting. And there is much blood to be shed today." Brutaka called behind him.

Tursas calmly advanced toward the necromancer, his smile very slowly growing wider. He quite calmly stretched his fingers, making the bladed edges of the gauntlets' claws clearly visible. "Well now, that's an interesting deal. But there's one little problem." Almost all of his body seemed to shift slightly as the spines hidden beneath the various scales promptly stood on end, twitching underneath the mucus coat.
"Let's ignore how laughable your threat is. Let's ignore how unlikely it is you could do anything to her. You see, the root problem is really quite simple." He stopped in front of the necromancer, leering at him. While his eyes were not visible, his smile was likely enough to make his expression fairly clear. "What makes you think I care?" ~~~ Oh good, they didn't appear to have any more questions. Thanatos kept his gaze on Brutaka and Raphael, giving no indication of his thoughts. Brutaka turned and began to walk away, and Lior stepped down from his position, following after him. Well, if they were ready, there was no need to keep them there. Thanatos mentally reached out, determining the actual current position of the gathered wargs. They were ready, at least, merely waiting on their commanders. No need to keep them waiting either. Once he had pinpointed the appropriate location, Thanatos cast a rather simple spell, with no more indication than a minor twitch of one hand. Simple for him, at least. Space twisted slightly, and he was alone in Golgotha's upper halls. Those who had gathered at his call were gone, now at the front of the forces at their command. He could ignore them for a time. He visibly relaxed somewhat. Had he tensed? How odd. Raphael's ignorance had been more irritating than he thought. No matter, there were other things to check. He cast another simple spell, and was gazing over Mirrodin Citadel, now burning in several places. The fires were somewhat less concentrated than he would have liked, but that was no reason to penalize the brothers for their performance. He calmly looked over the area, determining the location of various individuals. Novus and the rest of his unthinking lackeys, the deviants, the various leaders of his own forces, ZoD... but neither brother. Well, that was odd. Perhaps their portion of the plan had failed. Yes, it had. There was the girl. And another half-wit had joined their group, in addition to Mishra's aid. Mishra... Thanatos shifted his gaze, and his spell came up against a minor impediment. That was good, Mishra had the sense to protect his citadel from the unwanted gaze of strangers. If his opposition didn't have enough sense to do that, at least, he would have been disappointed. He simply pushed through. Now, where was Mishra... There he was, hidden away underground. Good for him, he wouldn't get killed as easily that way. Thanatos briefly wondered whether Mishra would notice his gaze there in the heart of his citadel. Well, it was of no concern to him. Mishra could notice or completely miss it, such a thing wouldn't change anything. He turned his gaze elsewhere, and began taking note of various other factors. Well, that was rather... worse than odd. It shouldn't have even been there. He would need to have a talk with Temeluchus about letting things escape his attention. Especially important things. Still, there was no harm for now. He would deal with that later. Thanatos ended the spell. He had other things to do. Among them was feeding Niedola. There was no need to keep her hungry, after all. |

The "decoy" necromancer caught sight of Tursas' smile, grew a bit pale, and fainted. The skeletons collapsed.
The Necro-Commander jumped slightly in regards to the random guy who appeared out of nowhere. But, opportunity arose. "It was one of those people near the great chamber. Just follow the sound of battle, and you'll find them. Protip: They're the ones that aren't skeletons." He then scrambled off. The skeletal hulk the Commander summoned was engulfed in flame. Flame, a very effective tool against flesh. Bone, however, was a bit more resistant to fire than flesh, so Jaya would find a huge, bone fist flying towards her. The rest of the army was also converging on this point. There were still several hundred armed skeletons moving in, and a necromancer runner had been sent to the squad of living soldiers who were awaiting orders nearby.

Raphael stood and turned just after Brutaka called for him. He walked slowly towards the door, not particularly in a hurry, but not so slow as to provoke his partner any worse. More enemies, more issues. Always something, eh? he thought whilst crossing his arms beneath his cloak.
Given the makeup of their opponents, it would be a touch more difficult to incapacitate them than simply belting out a few high pitched noises. He figured the quickest way to deal with them would be to break them, but it would take a bit of time to figure out the most effective frequency for the sound. He shrugged off the details of it all, as that would come in battle and turned his thoughts to Brutaka's comment on blood. He smiled faintly for a moment, then his expression became blank. click to show

Jack smiled as the Necro Commander left. Why! What a helpful young lad he was! said Jack sincerely as he watched the necro commander scamper off. He headed into the direction of battle sounds, where he ran into Adam and Co. fighting the bone golem.
Why hello there! Spoke Jack in a cheerfully creepy voice as he took a bow, having his hat in one hand. Now I'm really sorry about this, but I just got ordered to kill you from my new employer, as I am a mercenary. Also, my rum was destroyed and that is unforgivable. I'm really sure your nice people! Sorry! He used his free hand to wave in and cast a spell. Ignis! He then used, not only his own inner fire, but the fire that Jaya used to burn the skeleton, and reversed it upon her in a psuedo entropy style curse.

"Tur! Sas! that's so mean! how could you not care about me?"
Gat moved closer to Tursas, examining the collapsed skeletons. She wasn't really sure as to what her next action would be; the opponent more or less gave up. She began walking in circles around the remains. "So what'd we do?" --- ZoD had not anticipated someone else blocking the attack. He ceased glowing, but still looked drained regardless. He knew that as it stood, his reflective powers wouldn't fare much against the given opponents. The only thing the machine could conclude was to remain inactive and retain what little power he had left. OOC: Crappy post, but there wasn't much to do. >>; |

Adam couldn't help but facepalm at the newcomer's comments. Meanwhile, Jaya was busy dealing with the flaming skeletal fist flying at her. Reaching behind her and into her belt, she pulled out a cylindrical object, and flicking her wrist, extended it into a pole. When she swung and connected with the fist, it shattered, having been weakened by the flames that had engulfed it. Before she could react to the mercenary's flames, Luna had already moved in front and deflected it with her Spirit shield.
"I'll get this guy. You go after the commander." Eclipse said as she moved in front of the others, and blocked the way forward with her blades. Luna and the others raced past Eclipse and Jack, following after the commander. As Adam looked back at ZoD, he noticed the missing gem, as well as the fact that he seemed to be tired. "Get back to Mishra! He'll repair you the best he's able!" Adam shouted at the Mezzanotte before following after Luna and Jaya.

Tursas kicked the necromancer. That had been disappointing. He just fainted, and now Tursas couldn't hurt him and actually get a reaction. Not from him, anyway. And Gat probably wouldn't give any entertaining reactions to someone else's pain.
Yes, now he needed something else to do. He looked over at where the commander had gone and spotted a bit of activity. Hurray, maybe he could go interfere there. There was a newcomer too. Would they be good for a fight? But the others were there, and they would just get in the way. The newcomer could deal with them. If they couldn't get rid of him, maybe Tursas would intervene. Maybe not. It wasn't as if the newcomer was the only person to fight. And who was to say the citadel's defenses were adequate? And there were certainly enemy soldiers still alive in there, just waiting for someone to kill them. Tursas turned toward the citadel itself, and glanced over it. The building was burning quite a bit at that point, but it wasn't a blazing inferno. It was still survivable, meaning there could still be living people inside. He could at least mop up in the areas around the entrance. So he began walking back toward the citadel, back toward the fires, back toward the invaders and their weapons. And as brightly as the fires burned, he payed them little attention. Still, out of the corner of his eye, he couldn't help but wonder. There was one spot on the citadel, one spot on the walls far removed from the ground, a spot no one could have reached on foot. He couldn't help but wonder, as he glimpsed it out of the corner of his eye. Was the fire there spinning? |

The skeletal abomination continued its forward charge... But rather than attack, it leaped, collapsing and reforming into a large wall, blocking the way to Mishra.
Meanwhile, the hallway through which the commander fled was rapidly filling up with undead. To the point that there was no way around them. The front line was starting to open fire. Grenades began getting hurled towards the group of Alter users. Some of the grenades landed close to the bone wall, and were being "swallowed" by it. It then shot them towards Team Alter's backs.

Luna's mind went into overdrive as she saw the grenades come through the wall of bone in front of them. She quickly stepped in front of the group and raised a shield. However, it wasn't strong enough to protect them from all of the explosions. When the smoke cleared, Luna could be seen lying on the ground, her Alter missing and bleeding from her mouth, unconscious.
Meanwhile, Mishra was busy trying to coordinate the defenses, in essence fighting a losing battle. In fact, the battle had been lost, but now Mishra wasn't fighting, but trying to buy enough time for his teleportation system to recognize the living combatants from the reanimated dead and mechanical ones, and seperate Orwin's warriors from Thanatos'. Mishra looked over at Rion and Kaos, both of whom were starting to look a little restless. Adam and Jaya rushed to Luna's side and found that she was still alive, albeit barely. Adam looked over at the wall, which had been blown largely to pieces and readied his sabers as he saw the necromancers' forces bearing down on them. In Mishra's central sanctuary the glyphs on the walls finally began glowing, indicating that everything was ready. Mishra saw this and grabbed the satchel of supplies he had packed in just such an emergency. "About time. Whiteglove." Mishra said, and the Citadel began its final orders, teleporting all living beings away, separating Orwin's followers from Thanatos', and sending them to two seperate areas. Thanatos' minions found themselves not too far from where the Aethos Brothers landed following the attack they took. Orwin's followers, including ZoD, Jaya and Mishra found themselves on the edges of a majestic forest. Once all living beings were clear, the Citadel detonated with the force of a small nuclear device, destroying all of the necromancers' forces. "Quickly, into the forest!" Mishra said, and began to run into the forest. The others followed, Adam stopping only long enough to puck up the unconscious Luna into his arms. "What point is there? What good will this forest do?" Adam said, breathing heavily. Once they entered the forest, those who had their Alters activated found that they had more or less dissolved, while those with special abilities found that they felt slightly weaker. Soon they reached a small clearing, but still within the forest, the sunlight filtering greenly through the trees. Mishra signaled them to stop as he turned to Adam. "This is the Forest of Verdun, famous for its ability to nullify all magic, even Alters. This nullification effect was evolved by the trees in order to protect themselves from magical abilities and weapons. Another aspect is the forest also has a peaceful, calming effect designed to prevent aggression. Even a Councilor can't find us here, so it's safe for us to rest." Mishra explained, then continued. "There is a small spring not too far from here. Adam, Rion, take these canteens and fill them. The water from the spring heals all wounds. This spring is the only source of magic within the Forest of Verdun, and is exempt from the trees' self-preservation effect." Mishra said, handing Adam and Rion the canteens from the satchel he wore, and watched them walk in the direction of the spring. "ZoD, sit, and I'll start your repairs." Mishra said, and took a set of tools out of his satchel. Jaya and Eclipse started rummaging through the nearby bushes for fruit. Meanwhile, Adam was running over the journey they had taken so far in his mind. "I guess I really screwed the pooch as the leader on this mission. I mean, how many times have my decisions nearly gotten us killed?" Adam said glumly, voicing the thoughts that had been forming in his mind.

Suddenly, teleportation. They were all forced away from the citadel and dropped off somewhere else. And things had been getting interesting! They were getting fun! Progress was being made! Now all that was over.
Such were the thoughts of a rather young looking figure floating just a short distance above the ground, quite a ways away from the citadel. Well, now it was, at least. It had been right up on the citadel just moments before. It looked almost identical to Lior, though it was still armoured. Yet it could not have been him, simply because he was busy elsewhere. Judging by the light in the distance, the citadel had just exploded. Now there wasn't going to be any fun there at all. No bodies to reanimate, no zombies to retrieve, no treasures to loot, no sages to harass. Nothing. Just a crater that had replaced all the fun. And getting to the citadel had been a chore, too. At least he had the decency to teleport them away. The figure's thoughts were interrupted when it was joined by two more people, crashing into the ground on either side like small meteors. that could not have been a pleasant sensation. Still, they were Thanatos's servants, to they were probably durable enough to survive. Sort of. For a given definition of 'survive'. It simply floated over to one and began prodding him with one of its armoured boots. ~~~ How delightful. They were just teleported out of the citadel. Completely without warning, too. Joy. His Alter was sealed again too once he entered the forest, which was just irritating. If he was going to stop using it, he wanted it to be his choice to do so. Still, at least they were mostly safe from magical assault within the forest. Healing water. How delightful. Maybe even useful. Would its affects survive with the water if it was taken out of the forest? Possibly, possibly not. He certainly didn't know. They would probably find out at some point, though. Of course, Adam wasn't content to just fill water. Understandable, of course, but still somewhat annoying. "I'm going to guess that you nearly got the rest of the group that actually went out to the hills killed, if only because of how you're reacting. That's one." He extended one finger, still wearing his gauntlets. "Then there's arguably the fiasco with the machine. That's another one if you want, though it would have attacked either way." He continued to think, mentally going over all the past events he could remember. He was... rather disappointed. Were those really the only times? Fine, once, arguably twice if you wanted to really stretch logic. "So, once in memory. How horrible. Get over it." Well, ignoring what might have happened before Tursas showed up, but he was allowed to not know everything. |

A portal of darkness appeared several yards away from Lior's pseudo twin. Out popped Jack, face first, without his twinkin hat. Jack reached through the portal to get it before the explosion took it. He got up and dusted himself off. Jack noticed the twins and the kinda-but-not-really-Lior, dusted off his hat and stated Just wild Heavan, huh? Jack then put his hat on and waited for a response, imitating the sorta-Lior and kicking the other twin.

And then everyone died, and the universe ceased to exist.
Yeah, I'm officially declaring Alter Reign as deceased. Motivation's been lacking, and even my last few posts were forced. So, I'm requesting that both this topic and the Sign-Up thread be locked. Who knows, within the next few months, I'll come up with a new RP, and apply lessons learned from AR to the new RP.
