Despair Lost, The Elemental Aftermath
"Darkness shall be purged, melded with the light of truth and justice." Four hundred years ago, a nexus of evil, Arintekiter, broke free of his prison and took his revenge upon the world. His escape would usher a reign of darkness, were it not for the actions of a pair of teen boys and their assembled team of warriors. With their might and willpower, Arintekiter's black candle was extinguished. Arintekiter's death released the energy he held, erasing the ability for the warriors to age. Though Arintekiter's forces had razed the land and destroyed many cities and villages, there were survivors, pockets of people who had avoided the beasts and monsters. The heroes helped rebuild these lives, giving them homes and towns. They created a peaceful world without the corrupting darkness. Magic gradually faded from the world, no longer needed to protect the people. Conflict, however, would not remain quelled forever. Soriwa Koshinaida held hatred for the warriors, for their magic violated the rules of nature. They threatened the order of life and his family. He built a city from which he started his campaign to pit the world against the heroes of old. He built two more cities as he gathered followers and power. Upon his death, a group of elders took command, vowing to follow his wishes with an absolute, iron fist. Technology grew in leaps and bounds to counter Magic, and four more cities were built as the government of the world claimed itself the "Seven City Society," in adamant opposition to Magic and its users, the heroes of 200 years past, still alive due to the aftereffects of Arintekiter's defeat. Magic was declared sin, all its users declared Heretics. Within the year, the Seven City Society captured and executed over half the members of the Heretics. Only those with close bonds remained, protecting each other from the Society's tyrannical and deadly fist. Technology continued to grow, as the Society learned how to negate Magic and more easily capture or kill Heretics. The Heretics did as best they could, escaping, evading, and hiding. Now, scant few remain in comparison to the numbers in the old days. These few, lead by Daniel Tierro Psimon and Seth Infernio Riosa, have inspired some youth who have shaken indoctrination by the Society. These dissenters are labeled New Heretics, the heroes of old similarly labeled Old Heretics. With the remaining, adamantly surviving members of the Heretics eluding their grasp, the Society has increased its efforts to exterminate all of the Heretics so they may build their utopia. Magitech, built in secret by the studies of the Old Heretics' possessions once captured, has created many of the worst items that have successfully captured the Heretics. One such creation is the GOLIATH, a massive, intelligent machinoid creature whose sole purpose is to subdue or murder any Heretic it is sent after. Daniel and Seth encountered this beast, and though it disabled the monster for repairs, Daniel was captured as he saved Seth from the grip of the Society. In three day's time, Daniel will be executed at Terra City, the oldest of the Seven Cities, and the Hall of Justice where criminals are punished. Seth Riosa, the leader of the Heretics, wishes nothing more than to stop this and save his closest friend and co-leader. You, as the Player Characters, would thrust yourselves into this world of conflict as Heretics, New or Old, to fight the Seven City Society and what it stands for. Would you take the mantle and fight, or perish ignobly at the blade of a tyrannical, ignorant government? *Note: You will not actually perish if you do not participate in this RP. How I'd like this to work is that you post, saying something like "I'd like to join," and a method to contact you, and any times it would be convenient. These range from Flashchat PMs, PMs alone (Which I would enjoy avoiding), MSN, AIM, and/or Skype. When we're done with discussion and you and I are satisfied, you can edit your post into the profile for all to see.
Old Heretics Old Heretics are the remnants of the age past, where magic thrived and technology locked away by greedy scientists or archeologists searching the distant past. Though they have technology (And in some cases, secret projects), they prefer to fight with the mighty magic that has kept them quite alive up to this point. Having lived greater than 400 years, they have experience and knowledge in whatever they would care to know, and have practically mastered the element or elements they use. Their powerful magic is frightening even with the Magic Negation Barrier technology, for anything unprotected is toast. These are a "Start strong, grow slow" sort of character. New Heretics New Heretics are those who have shaken indoctrination and decided they fight for a different cause. Escaping their cities with only the clothes on their back and the technology they manage to filch, they do their best to survive in order to find the Heretics' hiding places and join them against the SCS. When they do, they will learn the secrets of magic and use it as their own. These are a "start weak, grow fast" type of character. The Elements: Fire- The use of heat and flame. Bolt- The use of electricity and lightning. Water- The use of water and mist. Ice- The use of ice and frost. Wind- The use of gales and wind. Rock- The use of rock and mineral. Dark- The use of dark and shadow. Light- The use of light and shine. Smoke- The use of smoke and smog. Sound- The use of sound and audio. Sand- The manipulation of sand. Time- The manipulation of temporal flow. Mind- The manipulation of mental power. Nature- The manipulation of nature and natural processes. Spirit- The manipulation of spirits and souls. If you simply post a profile without consulting me, I will ask for an as-close-to-immediate-as-possible discussion, and if you do not comply, I will have the post removed. Discussion is important so that you and I know the boundaries, and nothing breaks along the way. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's a nice example, the Leader of the Heretics Name: Seth Inferno Riosa New or Old Heretic: Old Heretic Age: 417 Element: Fire Physical Description: Seth stands at 6'2", with dark hair hanging to his shoulders. Streaks of white run through it, forming a rough pattern somewhat like fire. Rectangle-framed glasses sit in front of his silver-white eyes. Though his face is that of a teenager, a scar curves from underneath his right eye to his collarbone. He wears a shirt of scaled mail, over which is basic silver armor. What appears to be blunt spikes jut about a hand's width from each elbow. The chestplate of the armor bears the symbol of the Heretics. His lower body is covered by similar scale mail and armor. Flowing silvery fabric drapes behind the upper armor, upon which is the Heretic Symbol. The kneecaps on his armor have protrusions identical to the ones on his elbows. Personality: Seth cares about his fellow Heretics, and deeply wishes to tear apart the SCS with his bare hands. He has a strong sense of justice, and tries his best to lead the Heretics to a world free of tryannical suffering. Tools/Possessions: He has a pouch tied to his waist, in which is many things of weaponly quality, ranging from Ionblades to artifacts of ages past. Since it takes him a small amount of time to retrieve objects from the pouch, he carries Ionblades on his person, attached to his elbow and knee armor. Backstory: You'll get that later Skills: He's highly skilled with the technology he has obtained, quite capable of playing around with all of the gear he's had in his hands. He's also great at any cooking involving heat. He is also a skilled negotiator, capable even of out-thinking Daniel on a rare occasion or two. ---------------------------------------------- Signature Techniques: "Searing flames, soar forth from my sword to incinerate my foes! Blazing Slicing Wave!"- Seth swings his sword, real or otherwise, creating a massive wave of fiery energy which engulfs everything in its path. Sweeping them up like a broom, it explodes after traveling several hundred meters, destroying everything it gathered. "I could not protect you, Ami... I shall instead become the source of your vengeance! By pact of blood, I call you forth! Vidofnir, Inferno Lancer!"- Seth summons Vidofnir, the Lance of Victory, lighting it on fire and hurling it through whatever needs to be incinerated. He can also keep hold of the lance and use it as a searing spear to cut things apart. "Death awaits you, mind, soul, body. Sear in eternal fear, be lost in despair as you fall into nothingness. Hellfire!"- A fearsome skeletal apparition appears over Seth. It breathes intense flames across the land which incinerate all of a human's existence. It has a high potential for permanent collateral damage. "In black of night, or day of light, your soul shall be fuel, for His great might! Demonfire!"- Seth traces a reverse star in the air, which changes into a runic ram's head. Seth then rips through the veins in his arm, slashing blood across the seal's features. As he heals his arm, the seal breaks into a massive, dark purple apparition of flame in the shape of a fearsome, horned, and beastly head. Seth leaps into the sky, flaming skull following him upwards. The face of the fiery skull opens wide, releasing a massive, swirling inferno. Seth drives this hellish firestorm into the ground, where the entire tornado detonates, obliterating all lifeforms in range on 5 planes of existence. Never used while allies are about, it is absolutely deadly to all but Seth. It seems to draw the bulk of its energy from a being other than Seth or Phoenicus. "Symbols of flame, forged of the Ifrit... Spew forth torrents of thy searing breath! Flares of Yanalghi!"- Upon calling out this technique, Seth can create up to five runic circles approximately half his height in diameter, in a forward-facing semicircle. They act as energy-absorbing shields for their duration. At the end of about two and a half minutes, or Seth's command, whichever is first, they release all gathered energy as streams of blazing fire. They are incapable of harming any ally without the direct wish of the ally. Any magically imbued obstruction in the path of a beam causes it to refract in multiple directions, covering a large, fan-shaped region. Used most often for point defense where getting behind the runes is highly unlikely. Allies can will harm from the attack to feed energy into it while hopefully not standing in the path of the imminent blast. Yeah, there's more, I just don't have the urge to actually note them down and all. They will be up by the time I get Daniel's profile up, or by the time Daniel's continued existence is ended, whichever happens. ----------------------------------------------------- Spirit: Phoenicus, Flame of Justice Spirit's Element: Fire Description: Phoenicus reveals himself as a phoenix made of flame, often perching on Seth's head or shoulder when dispensing advice. He cares deeply about Seth's safety and goals, and will readly throw his own afterlife on the line to protect his host. Is known for his strong theories of justice, and his tendency to become greatly enraged when justice cannot be given. Has a Feral Form granted by anger known as "The Feral Phoenix." Bestial Release Appearance: Seth gains wings of fire and begins floating a few inches above the ground. His armor becomes red, legs segmented like the legs of a bird, and upper armor smooth and glowing faintly. His glasses become a headband resembling Phoenicus's crest. Guardian Release Appearance: Seth's wings compress into intense flames with physical presence, and he gains a flowing tail of searing fire. His armor appears much thicker, glowing brightly and covered with raspy protrusions. Flowing feathery cloth extends from his armor, constantly moving from the force of the magical energy he releases. His hands and feet gain armor with sharp claws like those of a bird of prey. The temperature in his general area raises twenty degrees from his intense aura. His headband has become a full helm, visor extending like the "smarmy bird's" beak. Flames trace runes across his armor constantly. Feral Form Appearance: Seth is consumed in a massive maelstrom of fire, wings and tail becoming streams of fire strong enough to incinerate most anything. His body is almost pure fire, limbs elongating and morphing to be almost entirely like Phoenicus's. He resembles a frightening apparition of flame, and his aura is powerful enough to force anybody of weak will to their knees. Alright, I've got some patience to deal with my crap computer issues for now.
Ground Rules for the RP Sign Up 1. Anybody can join at any point they so desire. Nobody will be outright denied unless they undermine one of the following rules. This includes tragic deaths. 2. From this point forward, you must be a Heretic if you intend to join. I hate to stifle creativity, but Heretics were what I intended you to be, and I don't want anymore "loose cannons" running about. 3. You cannot, however, sneak through without discussing your character with me. That's still a serious no-no. Ground Rules for the RP 1. If I feel your character is getting out of hand, or otherwise is seriously impeding the flow of the RP, I will kindly ask you to desist. If it continues, I will, as it goes, "drop some rocks." You can always make a new character afterward if this happens, but I would love to avoid doing it. I don't seem to have an irresponsible crowd, however. 2. I strongly advise against mutinous behavior or extremely foolish behavior. There are many ways you can outright die in this RP that are swift, nearly guaranteed, and yet easily avoided by not being stupid. Once again, refer to Rule One of the Sign Up. Note that the death portrayed in this rule is not me dropping rocks, but the fact that you are facing a powerful, technologically advanced society that has poured its all into being able to kill you. Advice 1. Seth (and Daniel) are your leaders, not your brothers, or homies. They may be friendly or kind, but, as a Commander might say, "Remember your place." They are not afraid of pruning the poisonous ivy. 2. This does not mean they're going to go stepping all over everyone. They are just as "screwed" in this war as the other Heretics. Protip here: "Advice" is much wiser than "orders." "Suggest" instead of "coerce." "Ask" instead of "threaten." If you need a little more, the Idea Thread for the RP has a little extra. This is damn useful, refer to it and come to me if more is needed, which probably will be. Either way, it's good info. THIS IS THE GODDAMN FUTURE, PEOPLE. Name: Pierre Blackbeer, Nicknamed The Bullseye. New or Old Heretic: Old Heretic Age: 444 Physical Description: A dwarf with a long, fuzzy, white beard, a long nose and pale empty eyes(He isn't blind). Wears a large, simple, over sized cloak(Even for a normal sized person). The cloak is blue and has tiny simplistic silver patterns on its outline and around its hood, with a rifle pattern on the back. Wears old leather boots and a small chain mail vest over a leather shirt. Wears simple brown pants with a pocket wherever possible, with about 2 centimeters in between each pocket, each used primarily to carry useful junk, pellets, bullets, small bombs, ammo, and beer. Personality: A Calm guy who cares for his team and feels a little 'older' than the rest, whether he is or not. He's not reckless and obviously, being a gunfighter, fights mostly from range. He heavily dislikes sarcasm and is usually a Happy guy, but in serious occasions can become too serious for most people. Tools/Possessions: A small, simplistic and old, unmodified rifle, Gourd of old beer, gourd of new beer and a Heavily modified Sniper scope with different sןght modes that has also been modified to be usable with ancient rifles(AKA, my rifle). Small bombs with big bangs, primarily used for busting rocks or large objects, fragment bullets used like a shotgun shell that splits into 9 or so spread bullets that fly in a small curve and explode, as well as smoke grenades with lots of smoke. Also carries a third large gourd of beer tied to his back, the gourd seems to be able to carry but a single gallon of beer, but due to magic management and enhancement it may practically carry an infinite amount of beer. However, this gourd also enchants alcohol for Pierre to increase his physical and mental abilities(More in back story). Also has a practically useless and simple silver chain pocket watch, just for the sake of having it, as it cannot tell time properly due to it continuing to tick whilst Pierre holds it and stops time. Back story: One of the only old heretics born with no guardian spirit, or bestial spirit. However, for an unknown reason, this has made his body take in alcohol as a powerful 'fuel' for his focus, agility and accuracy, oddly enough. Thus, his Beer, is like a source of power. He also carries several gourds of beer, one especially magically enhanced gourd that fuels his actions even further by torrenting increased energy and blood through his veins like adrenaline. Skills: Beer making(Can use magic for it), lock picking, hunting, hiding, van jump very high, increased stamina and very accurate shooter. Name: Oberrata Hayan, the Ecliptic Sage
Age: 475, so Old Herecy. Appearance: Always garbed in a plain, weather-worn, brown robe, with a hood that covers the head and face. There are braids of hair sticking out of both sides of the hood, which are black. Underneath, just plain brown pants and tunic. (I'm thinking that, for the first time on this forum, I'm going to have a female character. Hopefully, it doesn't turn out like the past attempts...) Her skin is tanner in color, but that's more from pigments than from exposed skin. Her eyes are an unnerving light grey color. She allegedly has armor stashed away somewhere, but she has never been seen wearing it if she does. Other than the gold rings holding the ends of her braids together, she doesn't dress very frivolously. May be why she doesn't wear armor. Spirits: Brädaísnberg, Warrior of Sky-piercing Might. Element: Wind Appearance: The Chinese-style sword on Oberrata's hip Beastial Release: Oberrata's robes change, appearing to be made from scales, or a dragon's skin. Ober is more agile and violent in this form, though less magically adept. The physical manifestation of this form is that of a small, Chinese dragon. Guardian Release: Oberrata's robes become overlayed by Chinese scale mail. Her defense increases greatly, but other things do not change. The physical manifestation of this form is an ancient warrior. Feral Release: Unlike other Ferals, Brädaísnberg's Feral Release does not cause Ober to go on a violent rampage. Instead, Ober seems to enter a state of supreme calmness. When people enter Oberrata's personal space while in this state, they tend to die, quickly, violently, but with minimal movement. As with the others, this is only avoided by strong relation to Ober or Bräd. The appearance merged is that of the Chinese armor over the scale robes. Personality, Oberrata: Very quiet, not talking often at all when in large groups. Some believe her mute, but when she does talk, it is much like her manner of dress, simple, functional, and without frivolity. Generally a calm, collected individual, one to think things out before acting. Tends to know a couple of things about the other Old Heretics that they wouldn't figure, being a bit older than most of them. Personality, Brädaísnberg: When she was a mortal, Brädaísnberg believed in efficiency in combat. That skill and focus could defeat raw strength in all things. A warrior sage, one could say. She is highly protective of the one who wields his spirit's vessel. Tools: A small knife, able to be used for wide purposes such as rope cutting, CQC, or preparing food. Don't worry, it gets cleaned. A Chinese-style sword by the name "Brädaísnberg", the relic in which her Spirit is manifest. A rope wrapped around her waist as a belt can be used for a couple of things. Name: Shire Stramn
New or Old Heretic: New Heretic Age: 17 Gender: Male Physical Description: Shire is tall and lanky, standing at roughly 6'1". Though he doesn't particularly have much muscle, he doesn't have a shred of fat on him. The color of both his hair and his eyes is a pitch black, though his hair has a deep crimson in certain parts. His hair is rather shaggy; long bangs that droop to his eyes, overgrown sides that grow well below his ears, and a spiked back. He tries to clothe himself efficiently, wearing light armor in several places; mainly his forearms and shins. He wears plain, baggy, dark gray shorts that close in just below his knees, and a matching top piece that closes just above his elbow. Personality: Shire's very friendly and outgoing, and goes out of his way to do kind things for others. However, he is truly a lonely, depressed child at heart. He had never entirely enjoyed the thought of the SCS capturing innocent people and murdering them, but just recently decided to do something about it. He's now trying to shut down the SCS, no matter what he has to do. Tools/Possessions: Shire carries around a wrist mounted beam gun on his left arm for protection, and a small, metal carving of a fox hidden in a secret pocket in his pants. Backstory: Shire had always loathed all of the SCS. Shire never truly had family, he only had people that were involved in his life. Neither did he have friends, and as a result, he was lonely and depressed, masking this with a happy, cheerful attitude. He abandoned his family at the age of 16 in the pursuit of finding any mages that he could join forces with to take down the SCS. Skills: Shire is well trained in the art of deceit, and has various survival skills. He can start a fire, make a shelter, and cook unprofessionally. He can also pickpocket well. She also is wearing a Silver Bracelet with the initials R.D. and L.V. carved on either side of a infinity sign, and on the opposite side is Friends forever. Possessions:300 meters of high quality rope, Laser handgun, Beam shotgun, and a Beam Knife. Personality:Adventurous girl who takes pride in doing things in the right way. She loves challenges and doesn't mind helping out others. Back-story:Her best friend went missing one day and she suspects SCS has done something to her and since she can't seem to find/is being warned that she should stop looking for her friend she decided she could find out more about what happened to her friend with the old heretics. Skills:Leather working, Wall climbing, and Fist-fighting.

---Mini-Update---
These posts are to continue conversation. It is nonsensical, in my opinion, to answer five different people who came in at different spaces of time. They are also used to place information unrelated to the Heretics in an amount which does not require a full "update" post. They will be marked by the lack of mood music at the top of the post. Due to a number of complications, chiefly being a lack of ability to coherently write a decent paragraph, there will not be a major update for a short while. It will likely come mid-week. I apologize for any inconvenience, and hope that our remaining stragglers can pop in before they get behind the loop.
