Make a Good Mega Man Level Contest - Released! V1.6
The wait is finally over! The Make a Good Mega Man Level Contest is finally done and playable!

This game is the result of a contest run by me, SnoruntPyro. The contest turned out very successfully, with 20 entries and the results being streamed by well-known Mega Man LPer GeminiLaser/Flashman85. And now, the game is finally available to the public!

Features
  • 26 levels - possibly the largest Mega Man fangame yet!
  • Plenty of bosses strewn throughout the stages along with bosses of each of the level 'tiers'!
  • 8 weapons chosen via a poll, along with Rush Coil and Rush Jet!
  • A hub that grows with each level you beat!
  • A shop with useful upgrades!
  • plenty of bugs that will need to be patched out
  • And more stuff!

Hey guys guess what, someone found a softlock bug. It hasn't even been 20 minutes. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

(but yeah please redownload, otherwise the game will softlock if you die to the wily 5 boss)

So far I've found two major soft locks caused by having the screen move where it shouldn't be.
In Tier 1 at place 18 I think you can just walk straight through the weed stash walls which will put you inside a collision with no way out.
In Tier 1 at place 17 I think you can use the gravity whatever to stop the lasers and slide in their holes at certain places, which move the screen outside the room boundaries and will just put you in hell.

Friendly reminder to talk to the Robot Master NPCs as they show up. They might have useful information, witty remarks, or they might just simply lie to you.

A couple of issues I've noticed with the game that I feel should be dealt with.

1) The hitbox for Mega Man is absolutely enormous. Sometimes I am able to see a bullet go right past me by a small margin, but I still get hit. I also got hit on one of the Tier 2 levels, the Telly spam stage, even when I knew I should have been able to avoid it.

2) It seems to me that getting damaged by any enemy hurts a lot. I think these numbers should be lowered a little bit; it would also make dealing with the enemy-spam stages a lot easier as well.

Noticed that too, it's not even the hitbox of megaman itself, it seems to also be the hitbox of the enemies that is insane. Also, I can't confirm this, but it feels as if the hitbox increases to megaman's hands when he jumps.

The weapon icons in the pause menu and when quick-switching are all the default Mega Man colors instead of their actual color, which bothers me.

Found an error in the 5th place stage "Research Facility." I was using the Proto Man costume and eventually got up to second archives boss. When the boss used Dark Man's move-set and froze me, my sprite reverted back to Mega Man's - and upon the boss hitting me, the game crashed with an error message (although sadly I don't have it copied down at the moment).

Also, the previous level (which is Lamda's, I believe) seems to have an error with one of its screen transitions. I'm not sure what the exact trigger for this is, but I've died numerous times while trying to go down this section here:

After spawning back in, the enemies practically become invincible (they immediately respawn upon being killed), and the transition still refuses to work, acting more like an instant death pit. Granted, the transition eventually worked (somehow), but this issue has happened twice in a row during previous attempts at it.

Nothing game-breaking, but I'd thought I'd mention it.

One of the checkpoints in 15th place, Level Midnight Snow, doesn't have teleport bricks, so you just fall through the ground and have to reset your game.

Is the hitbox really that big? I'll shave off a few pixels and see if that helps. Also Garriry, the hitbox doesn't change at all if you jump. Must have just been you.

As for damage values, I directly copied the numbers from Mega Man Knowledge Base. So it's not any more or less balanced than the official games. Unless I did some stuff wrong? But it's an issue I haven't really run into.

I'll be uploading another patch shortly - it'll fix all this stuff pointed out. I'll either edit this post or make another post if someone else posts once that's taken care of.

EDIT: OH ALSO ENTITY there's a random hidden block there. It's dumb. That level is bad.

If you talk to an npc and jump at the same time, you'll jump with your standing sprite. It's pretty easy to do.

Alright, update is out. I'll put together a changelog for these few updates:

Changelog V 1.2
- "City War" is now an optional level.
- Fixed a softlock against the Wily 5 boss.
- Fixed the Wily 1 boss rarely getting stuck in the boss door.
- Fixed health and weapons not getting recovered if you game over'd in the wily fortress.
- Various level design tweaks in Wily 6.
- Fixed screen transition bugs in City War, Level, The Quickening, Thunderclyffe Plant, and Mega Man World.
- Fixed a bug where the game would randomly tell you that the variable "bl" does not exist.
- Fixed a bug where Jolt Man's energy element would get stuck in the wall.
- Fixed a bug where Mega Man would be forced to his standing sprite, even when in the air, when talking to something.
- Fixed a broken checkpoint in Midnight Snow.

For the weapon switch icon colors being incorrect, I'll fix that in a bit, I have to go do a thing. Also I tried messing with Mega Man's hitbox but it just broke everything. So yeah, sorry about the large hitbox guys! dodge better
