Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2

http://megaman.capcom.com/mmxlc.html

They've just announced two new Legacy Collections for the Mega Man X series. Mega Man X Legacy Collection will contain X1-X4, and Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 will contain X5-X8. Both collections come out July 24 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.

Too bad they're not including Command Mission, but this is pretty good.

And they are doing the exact same thing they did with the classic Mega Man Legacy Collection on the Switch. Include MMX Legacy Collection as a cart, then MMX Legacy Collection 2 as a downloadable. That's just trash TBH.

Yeah it's weird. I wonder what the reasoning is behind only having one game as a cart and the other as a downloadable.

I think the real question here though, is whether they're going to announce X9 after these collections the same way they announced Mega Man 11 after the Mega Man Classic Legacy Collections. I'm thinking it might actually happen. Like, the collections were just the perfect setup for Mega Man 11, and I think it'd be a good setup for X9 too. And now that we know they're making Mega Man games again, and people inside Capcom have been wanting to make more Mega Man games for a long while now, I wouldn't doubt that a group inside Capcom have suggested X9 and gotten the go ahead.

It's probably because Switch cartridges are more expensive to manufacture than optical discs. Bayonetta 2 did the same thing.

Agreed. While I'm aware that Switch cartridges are more expensive than Blu-rays, it's just laziness from the publisher, and IMO Nintendo shouldn't allow this. Fully digital or fully physical.

The PS1 and PS2 versions of X4-X8 combined weigh about 2.5 GB if I'm right. Sure X7 and X8 are going to be the PC versions most likely but I doubt they weight significantly more. The SNES versions barely weigh anything so to me it seems like they have no excuse to not fit it all of them in a single cartridge.

We shouldn't get our hopes up too much, as much as I'd love an X9 game. The Legacy Collection was announced in 2015 I think? So it took two and a half years for 11 to be announced. So judging by this pattern X9 could be announced in Q3 2020, and released in 2021. However, it is possible that they already started working on it now, but that depends on the team that works on it.

One instance isn't exactly a pattern. I don't think there's any sort of precedent for the timescales of this. Also, it could have been so long between the first Legacy Collection announcement and the Mega Man 11 announcement because they wanted the collections to sit for a while and gain enough of a new audience to make Mega Man 11 viable. And now that there's more fans focusing on Mega Man again you might not need that much of a wait. I mean heck they announced the X Legacy Collections 1 and 2 at the same time.

Although, it also depends on how far into development X9 would be. It might take a while for the announcement depending on how long it takes for X9 to become presentable.

Uh guys? WHO CARES? Having it on the switch means the entire X series will be fully portable now, that's amazing to me. I don't honestly get the whole "[Insert company here] is doing it wrong by going the digital/hybrid route" except that they'd like a physical copy. Thing is, with the switch, I'm a bit more ok with just keeping it on the system, just as long as they fix that glaring *can't data transfer* issue for just in-case purposes. Anywho, I for one am HYPED to get this two days before my birthday.

Hopefully it being on the Switch means I'll be able to use it instead of playing for a while and then it just continually crashing on me like Legacy Collection on PC.

Oh, yeah Rockman X: Anniversary Collection.
Both games interessed me but why make 2 collections AT SAME TIME f* Capcom... Not only that:
1. I simply dislike those filters, it distort most of the sprites, well at least we can use on X7 and 8.
2. I hope we can select between Japanese or English versions, because x4... Well.
3. Anniversary Collection is much better than Legacy Collection. Why change the name on western version? hehehe.

The question remains which version of X3 they will use. Classic Legacy collection used the PS1 version of MM8, but maybe the SNES version of X3 is easier to emulate than its PS1 counterpart. Or maybe not.

I'm quite sure they won't give us both.

All the same I'm looking forward to picking this up for PC.

I was wondering that too, actually. I hope it's the SNES version since the PS1 version is just a terrible port. Not only is the SNES easier to emulate, but SNES games have a much smaller filesize than PS1 titles. However, I believe that the X Collection (on PS2/GC) used the PS1 version so who knows.

At least the PAL region will (hopefully) get the X games this time around, without having to resort to digital copies (e.g. Virtual Console) or a chipped console and an imported NTSC copy (or spending $3000 on original PAL copies of each game!!!)

File size doesn't matter these days, unlike in 2005 where sub-100GB hard drives were common. Capcom included the PSX version of X3 in the X Collection since it had all the added features that weren't on the SNES, and the emulation core was there anyway for X4-6. As for why the Saturn version of MM8 wasn't in Anniversary Collection, the Saturn was a PITA to emulate (even today) compared to the PS1, and probably would have needed Sega's permission on top of that due to the licensing.

RE: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2
You know, after watching the little mini videos on each game on the Japanese Capcom website and really thinking about things, I'm honestly just really glad the X series is finally getting some sort of real attention. For the longest time it just felt like my favorite series was just this thing that was long abandoned. After having spent some of my childhood and all of my teenage years with Capcom not doing anything with the X series at all, to see a new thing from the series is just so surreal. I think that's what I'm happy about the most with this. I'm feeling like the way I felt when the Switch was released and the great Nintendo drought finally ended. It was just like "there's actually new games for all of these series that I love?!?!?! Really truly?!?!?!?!?!?! AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if only Mega Man X9 could be announced, then I could die of happiness. After playing it of course.

Yeah, I'm not completely sure how I feel about it being pre-set. I hope that you can create your own combos and post them for other people to try (a la Mario Maker levels). I doubt that'll happen, though.

Aw, that is a bummer. I really wanted to try some combos at X-X4 games.

XChallenge gameplay video of Chill Penguin + Frost Walrus.

The mysterious armor so far seems to just function like the Ultimate Armor. Also is it just me or does the shading and detail of the new armor look rough.

Whoever was playing in that video wasn't very good lol. Reminds me of when I first played Mega Man...

Is that even a new armour? I think its a recoloured Ultimate Armour. Maybe it doesn't have Nova Strike or something.
The colours look good on it though.

Looking at it again, that's exactly what it is. It's a recolored Ultimate Armor with seemingly less shading. I wonder what the deal with it is. I do like the colors also.

EDIT
Maybe they recolored the Ultimate Armor to represent one of the 16 bit armors or the Hermes Armor in 32 bit.
