It is happening, and it's a god-fucking-damn atrocity. Granted, Lucas DID say that he once had ideas for seven films, but that's besides the point.

Guys. Do you realize what this sacrilege means?

This means we're going to get another Tron: Legacy. But with Star Wars.

Oh God, why?

Oh, it can get worse. We can have a Star Wars crossover in Kingdom Hearts.

How.. how are they continuing to make Star Wars worse?!

Prequels.. ridiculous changes to the originals..

And there's now there's going to be a seventh one?

EDIT: Yeah, sure, overreaction, sure. I'm just getting a little sick of my childhood getting "updated" constantly. I've got a right to be skeptical.

Considering what possibilities are out there. This could be an AWESOME opportunity. If they could go through some of the storylines in the books. We could have some awesome movies. I know disney doesn't have a perfect track record, but if they play their cards right, they could REALLY revive the series and not with that animated clone wars series (which I think was awesome).

come at me.

Unless you're referring to the 2D one that introduced Grievous/Dirge/Asajj Ventress, you're an idiot.

That said, yeah, if they do it right they could do wonders for the series. I just don't trust them to do it right.

The current Clone Wars isn't the worst thing around, but it will never be able to stand up to the original animated series.

And I'm totally on-board with the books becoming films. Leia and Han's kid getting a film might not be so bad if done right.

RE: StarWars Sold to Disney
Disney buying Star Wars isn't a problem, they seem to be doing great things for Marvel.

My only real issue with this is that it seems entirely pointless. It's sort of like making a sequel to Lord of the Rings, the final part wrapped everything up entirely, then where do you go after that? There is no longer story to tell.

The first 3 films (that is, episode 4 onwards, I can't really count the first three as they seemed to bungle everything.) built up to a climax that would be very hard to top.

To give a more relevant example, X5 was supposed to end the X series. Anything the series was building up to was ruined by the existence of X6 and X7. X5 wrapped everything up and the series should've ended.
This is how i'm seeing this.

Maybe they'll put the time and effort into it, and if Lucas' role is downplayed then it might stand a chance, but it does scream of being entirely pointless story-wise.

I'll reserve my judgement. For now.

Lamda:
I highly doubt anything from the Expanded Universe is getting turned into films.

Squee:
I couldn't watch the CG Clone Wars. Anakin's actions in episode 3 makes him being cast as a hero, entirely akward to watch.
Had it been made before Ep 3? Maybe it could've worked for me.

Hey, I can dream.

I'm curious, Ace, why didn't you include X8 in that post-X5 failure list?

X8 was average. It was also pointless, but at least it was a playable pointless. Unfortunately, it failed to wrap up the series like X5 did.

I'd love to see the Thrawn Trilogy get made into movies myself. That was my favorite part of the stories after Episode 6. But... They probably wouldn't go the route of the books. Sadly.

True. They, at the very least, should have used Layer as an Iris parallel. But, no.

RE: StarWars Sold to Disney
I don't see the problem with this. Lucas and the old staff will still be there; Lucas likely as a strong consultant voice. Personally, I loved the old three movies and I loved the new three (granted I loved the old more, but I still found the first three to be spectacular). I'm excited to see what happens. It's not like the same people directing Mickey cartoons will be directing Star Wars.

I actually find it plausible that they'd turn to the books as possible sequel ideas. The story really does continue, it just isn't quite as epic. That's where I definitely agree with ACE. It's like a sequel to Lord of the Rings where we watch all of the stories and adventures during Aragorn's reign as king of Gondor up until his death (after all, nobody else is going to be doing anything interesting). Might be very entertaining, but not nearly as awesome.

all lucas was doing anyways was re-releasing the old episodes over and over again trying to make a buck. Now, disney is willing to give us 3 brand new movies. I see it as a win win.

Lucas is the most supreme level of lunkhead. Everything good about the original three were either changes to what he did or not to do with him. That's why the three new(er) ones were bad.
Of course he's consultant and this new three will probably be bad.

All of this is under the assumption that the Star Wars fans will just let it slide if it does suck. If there's a big enough stink made, they might get the memo and either back off or do something of quality. But probably not.

Idk, it doesn't seem to matter what the fans think.

I mean, Lucas managed to screw up with really crazy changes to the classic films. Fans complained. Nothing happened.

SO wait. Disney owns marvel and Lucas arts now. So Marvel/Star wars crossovers are possible?

Also Warner bros has DC right? What could Warner bros possibly get to compare with star wars?
